martexin tin

Waxed Canvas

Martexin Original Wax from Fairfield Textiles uses an exclusive Martexin® finish, which makes it technically superior to other waxed cotton fabrics in performance, longevity, and dryness of hand. Martexin Original Wax is an environmentally friendly blend of food and pharmaceutical grade waxes, and is completely non-hazardous. This unique formula gives the fabric lifelong resistance to inclement weather and as the fabric ages, it develops a well-worn and comfortable patina. The patina develops with more and more use, in the same manner that leather ages and burnishes with time.

Waxed Leather

Full Grain, Vegetable Tanned Cowhide Leather impregnated with refined dubbin recipe. Has excellent pull-up effect.

'Pull-Up' leather describes full-grain leather that is heavily infused with waxes and oils. When the leather is bent, stretched, or “pulled,” the oils and waxes shift within the fibers, causing the color to temporarily lighten in those areas. This creates natural highlights, depth, and a living surface that evolves with use.

dubbin

Personal Dubbin Recipe

Dubbin is a thick, conditioning substance made of waxes and oils that softens and waterproofs smooth leather goods like boots, bags, and jackets. It's applied to the leather to protect it from drying, cracking, and water damage, extending the life of the item. Wikipedia: Dubbin (also known as "dubbing" in the US) is a greasy or waxy product used to soften, condition, and waterproof leather. It has been used since medieval times to waterproof and soften leather goods. It differs from saddle soap used to clean and lightly condition leather, or shoe polish, which is used to impart shine and color to it.
It consists primarily of various waxes and oils. Commercial dubbin contains petroleum jelly (petrolatum), paraffin wax, neatsfoot oil, and naphtha (C10-12 alkane/cycloalkane). More traditional dubbin can be made with beeswax, fish oil and lard.
The name dubbin is a contraction of the gerund dubbing, describing the action of applying the wax to leather.

Thread

Tex 70, Tex 92, Tex 135 bonded polyester

Bonded polyester thread is a strong, durable thread made of high-strength polyester filaments that are treated with a bonding agent. This process binds the fibers together, creating a smoother, more cohesive thread that is more resistant to fraying and abrasion. It is ideal for heavy-duty applications and is known for its high UV and mildew resistance, making it a top choice for outdoor and automotive upholstery, marine fabrics, and gear like sails and tarps.
Smoother and stronger: The bonding agent smooths the thread's surface, reduces friction, and prevents fraying, which leads to less tangling and more consistent stitching.
High-tensile strength: It is made from resilient, continuous polyester filaments, making it very strong and durable.
Abrasion and UV resistant: The bonded finish increases resistance to abrasion, and the polyester material is naturally resistant to UV light, making it fade-resistant and ideal for outdoor use.
Chemical and mildew resistant: It has excellent resistance to mildew and chemicals, which is important for projects exposed to damp or humid conditions.
Versatile: Bonded polyester thread is used in a wide range of heavy-duty projects, including upholstery, outdoor furniture, canvas, luggage, and even automotive applications.
